Cecily, Countess of Rutland and son

Cecily Manners, wife of the 6th Earl of Rutland, was buried in St Nicholas' chapel in Westminster Abbey on 11th September 1653 but she has no monument or marker. She was the daughter of Sir John Tufton, 1st Baronet of Hothfield in Kent by his second wife Christian (Browne). Her first husband was Sir Edward Hungerford of Farley Castle, Wiltshire. Her brother Nicholas became 1st Earl of Thanet and brother Richard was buried in the Abbey.

Her son Francis, by Francis Manners (d.1632), was known as Lord Roos of Hamlake (by a special provision in the grant of the barony to his father) and was buried in St Michael's chapel on 7th March 1620, having been removed from St Martin in the Fields parish the day before. His death (and that of his young brother Henry) was allegedly from the effects of witchcraft (two servants at Belvoir Castle, seat of the Rutlands, having confessed their guilt).
