Edward Aspinwall

The Reverend Edward Aspinwall was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey on 8th August 1732. But he seems never to have had an inscribed gravestone and there is no monument for him. He was a son of Henry Aspinwall and was born on 1st January 1678 in Lancashire. His brother was Francis (who had a daughter Bridget). His education was at St Omer English college and he was admitted to the Society of Jesus and ordained a Roman Catholic priest. Later back in England he entered the Church of England and became chaplain to the Earl of Radnor. In 1712 he was a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal and was made Sub-Dean in 1718. In 1729 he was installed a prebendary at Westminster. His wife was Elizabeth Margaret, buried with him on 8th January 1742. They appear to have had no children. Her great grandfather was Sir Ralph Freeman according to here will.
