Frances Louisa Parnell

On the wall of the west cloister of Westminster Abbey is a modern memorial, designed by J. Peter Foster in slate and white marble, to Frances Louisa Parnell. She was a young child of politician Sir Henry Brooke Parnell who was created Baron Congleton in the English peerage in 1841 and died the following year. His wife was Lady Caroline Dawson, daughter of the 1st Earl of Portarlington (died 1861). The original memorial had disintegrated by the 1960s and descendants requested a new tablet, which has the original inscription: 

Sacred to the memory of Frances Louisa Parnell. Born 28 October 1806 Died 18 September 1812. Interred under this spot. This monument is placed here by her afflicted and disconsolate mother
