Henry Roper
On the wall of the Little Cloister at Westminster Abbey is a memorial to Henry Quittenton Roper. The white marble tablet reads:
In memory of Henry Quittenton Roper, chorister of Westminster Abbey May 1879-Nov 1884. Born January 24th 1871 Died November 23rd 1887. This tablet was erected by the Dean and Chapter
The memorial is near where the choir practice room was at this period. He was a son of James Roper, clerk of Croydon in Surrey and died of consumption. Two brothers were also at the Choir School - Victor Roper (born 1883) chorister 1892-1897 and Edgar Stanley Roper (1878-1953) chorister 1888-1894 and later Honorary Assistant Organist of the Abbey.
