Sir Dingle Foot

On the south wall of St Margaret's church Westminster is a plaque to politician Sir Dingle Foot. His ashes were buried in the church in 1981 (a few years after his death), and those of his wife. The plaque, with his coat of arms at the top, reads:

To the glory of God and in memory of The Right Honourable Sir Dingle Mackintosh Foot QC 1905-1978 Member of Parliament for Dundee 1931-1945 and Ipswich 1957-1970 Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Economic Warfare 1940-1945 Solicitor General 1964 Treasurer of Gray's Inn 1968. He was born in Plymouth, Devon on 24th August 1905, a son of Isaac, also an M.P. and his wife Eva (Mackintosh). His brothers were Hugh, John and Michael. Educated in the Isle of Wight and at Oxford he was secretary to his father until he entered Parliament himself. He married Dorothy Elliston (died 1989) but they had no children. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Observer Corps until recalled to London by Winston Churchill to work at the Ministry. He died in Hong Kong.
