William Sayer

In the north cloister of Westminster Abbey is the grave of William Sayer and his wife Sarah. He lived in Parliament Street, near the Abbey, and worked in His Majesty's Victualling Office. Sarah was buried on 7th April 1830 aged 86. Their children were Sarah, wife of Walter Barrett and Mary, wife of William Bent. He bequeathed land at Penkridge in Staffordshire to his brother John and mentioned Mary, widow of his brother Thomas in his will. His nephew Nathaniel Sayer was organist of Ingestre in this county. His sister was Mary (Price). The inscription reads:

Sacred to the memory of William Sayer, Esq. who departed this life April 24th 1811 aged 74 years. Also of Sarah, relict [widow] of the above William Sayer, Esq. Born August 12th 1744. Died March 31st 1830
