Abbey Celebrates St Peter's Day
Thursday, 30th June 2016
Westminster Abbey, since 1560 the Collegiate Church of St Peter Westminster, has from the beginning been under the patronage of St Peter, Apostle and Martyr. On St Peter's Day, Wednesday 29th June 2016, a Sung Eucharist was celebrated at which the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, preached the sermon.
The service was sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by the Organist and Master of the Choristers, James O'Donnell.
Earlier in the day, members of College and of Greater College, including Abbey Choristers from Westminster Abbey Choir School and Queen's Scholars of Westminster School, had heard a lecture from the Abbey's consultant archaeologist, Professor Warwick Rodwell, about recent findings in the Abbey during preparations for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries, which are to open in the Triforium early in 2018.
The Dean later presided at a dinner for the collegiate body of Westminster Abbey in College Hall attended by members of College and other senior staff with many Abbey advisers and, by ancient tradition, the Prime Warden and Clerk of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers.
