Abbey congratulates Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Monday, 23rd April 2018
The Dean and Chapter of Westminster congratulates the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their son.
To mark the occasion the Westminster Abbey Company of Ringers will ring a full peal of Cambridge Surprise Royal on the Abbey's ten bells commencing at 1.00pm on Tuesday 24th April, to coincide with the gun salute in Hyde Park. It is a historic tradition that the Abbey's bells are rung for significant royal occasions.
For the birth of Prince George in 2013 and Princess Charlotte in May 2015, the same peal was rung, lasting over three hours.
The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall who conducted the wedding service of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in April 2011, said:
It is a real pleasure to offer the warmest congratulations of the Abbey community to Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their third child. We shall continue to pray for every blessing of almighty God for the growing Cambridge family and for the important role they will increasingly play in the life of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
