Abbey launches teaching resources
Monday, 11th January 2021
Westminster Abbey has launched a new range of free-to-download teaching resources.
Designed to support learning across key stages in subjects including RE and history, all of the resources are available free from the Abbey website.
The catalogue includes lessons to help students explore the Abbey, its centuries-long tradition of worship and role in national life. From guides to Christian festivals and masterclasses on science and religion to a personal account from a chorister who sang at The Queen’s coronation, all of the resources are aligned to the National Curriculum. New materials will be added to the catalogue regularly.
Feedback from teachers who have begun using the resources has included:
'Resources are informative, easily accessible and lay a good foundation for understanding of key concepts.'
'The resources provide an excellent tool for teachers to supplement lessons. They give students the opportunity to explore and expand their knowledge of particular topics beyond the classroom setting.'
'These resources will be extremely useful to support those we have from our Diocese… A time saver!'
It is hoped that the materials will also be of particular help to teachers supporting learning at home during lockdown.
The new resources are part of the Abbey’s growing support for schools and families. Also on offer are a year-round programme of school visits and community projects; family days and holiday activities; and digital resources including virtual tours and creative activities to try at home.
