The Reverend Robert Latham appointed Minor Canon and Sacrist

The Minor Canons, the Precentor and Sacrist, are responsible for all worship and liturgy in the Abbey and in St Margaret's Church. This includes the celebration of the Eucharist and the provision of Sunday worship, as well as many special and annual services.

'A privilege and a joy'

The Reverend Robert Latham said: ‘I am delighted to be joining the community at Westminster Abbey to serve in the role of Minor Canon and Sacrist. It will be a privilege and a joy to work closely with the Dean and Chapter, and dedicated colleagues and volunteers across all departments to sustain the worshipping life of the Abbey. As I look forward to forging new relationships and facing new challenges, I look back with thanksgiving for a truly fruitful and enjoyable curacy in the Fromeside Benefice.

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, said:

The Minor Canons help sustain the worship that is the very heartbeat of the Abbey. Over the years, we have had wonderful company serving us in this role. I am now delighted to welcome Bob Latham, someone I knew when I worked in Bristol and a priest I much admire. It will be a real delight to welcome him to the Abbey.

The Reverend Robert Latham was ordained priest in June 2019 after three years training at Ripon College Cuddesdon, and another year as deacon in the in the Fromeside Benefice. Before ordination as a priest he ran a landscape gardening and design company. He was a member of the congregation of Bristol Cathedral where he was also Head Server.

The Fromeside Benefice was formed in July 2016 from the four parishes of All Saints’ Winterbourne Down; St Michael’s, Winterbourne; St James the Less, Iron Acton; and St Peter’s, Frampton Cotterell.
