Ashes of Dr Wesley Carr buried in the Abbey

Evensong on Tuesday 24th April 2018 was followed by the burial of the ashes of the Very Reverend Dr Wesley Carr KCVO, who was Dean of Westminster from 1997 to 2006.
The service was conducted by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, who gave the welcome and pronounced the blessing.

The ashes were buried in the nave of the Abbey, near to the graves of Dr Carr's predecessors in office.
Wesley Carr was educated at Dulwich College and at Jesus College, Oxford. He was ordained in 1967.
In 1987 Dr Carr became Dean of Bristol. Ten years later he moved to Westminster Abbey where, in 1997, he conducted the funeral service of Diana, Princess of Wales, and in 2002 of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and, in the same year, a memorial service for Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.
On his retirement as Dean of Westminster in 2006 he was appointed a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and moved to Romsey in Hampshire.
He died in July 2017, aged 76.
