Sir John Corbet

Sir John Corbet, 2nd Baronet of Stoke in Shropshire was buried in Westminster Abbey on 22nd February 1665 "in the north aisle chapel next the steps" (probably the north ambulatory). There is no marker or monument for him.

He was one of twenty children of Sir John Corbet, 1st Baronet and his wife Anne, daughter of Sir George Mainwaring. His grandfather was Richard Corbet who married Anne, daughter of Sir Thomas Bromley, Lord Chancellor. According to Burke's Extinct and Dormant Baronetcies the family descended from Corbeau, a Norman famous in the time of William the Conqueror. His own wife was Lettice (or Letitia), daughter of Sir Robert Knollys of Grey's Court in Oxfordshire (she died 1670). His only son Sir John succeeded to the title.
