David, 1st Earl Beatty

David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty (1871-1936), naval officer, is buried in St Paul's cathedral but as a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath he has a stall plate in the Lady Chapel at Westminster Abbey. 

He served in the Mediterranean fleet and was well known for his qualities of leadership. In 1913 he was appointed to the battle cruiser squadron and served at the battle of Jutland. He was Commander in Chief of the Grand Fleet 1916-1919 and later First Sea Lord. At that time he was the youngest ever Admiral of the Fleet and accepted the surrender of the German Grand Fleet at Scapa Flow in 1918. He lies next to Lord Jellicoe in the crypt of St Paul's.

There is a bust of him in Trafalgar Square.
