Lord Sainsbury

Lord Sainsbury was a generous donor to the Westminster Abbey Appeal Fund which raised millions of pounds for restoring the exterior of the Abbey and also Henry VII's Lady Chapel. This ran from 1973 until 1995 when the completion of the Lady Chapel was marked by the unveiling of new stained glass in the west window of the Lady Chapel. This contains the Sainsbury coat of arms among many others who were donors or fundraisers and was designed by John Lawson.

There is also in the vestibule of this chapel an enamelled plaque which reads:

The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts

who also donated.

The main inscription here reads:

The Lady Chapel was restored 1992-1995 largely thanks to the generosity of those whose names are recorded here and in windows of the chapel.
